The Department of Management, Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) at the University of Bengkulu proudly congratulates Agni Satria Perdana (NPM C1B021010) for being selected as an Awardee of the Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) 2024, which will take place at Frankfurt School of Business and Management, Germany. IISMA is a prestigious scholarship program initiated by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, offering Indonesian students the opportunity to participate in academic and industrial mobility programs at top international universities and institutions. The program includes three main schemes: IISMA Regular, IISMA Co-Funding, and IISMA-Entrepreneur, with a duration of one semester for IISMA Regular and six weeks for IISMA-Entrepreneur.
Aligned with IISMA-Entrepreneur’s mission to foster an entrepreneurial spirit, Indonesia still faces significant challenges in developing this sector. The country currently requires nearly one million additional entrepreneurs to reach the ideal threshold of 4% of the active population engaged in entrepreneurship. Major obstacles for aspiring entrepreneurs include a lack of business knowledge, limited access to professional networks, and insufficient capital. Thus, creating a supportive business ecosystem is crucial for driving economic growth and generating more job opportunities.
One of the biggest challenges in Indonesia’s economic landscape is the disparity in entrepreneurial opportunities. While there are 42 million registered micro-enterprises, approximately 60% of them are concentrated on Java Island, indicating an imbalance in entrepreneurial development across regions. Inadequate infrastructure and unfavorable regulatory frameworks further exacerbate the issue. Given that Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) contribute over 60% to Indonesia’s GDP and account for more than 90% of employment, supporting MSME growth is a strategic investment with far-reaching economic benefits.
Inspired by various government-led initiatives, Modalin was established as a digital business incubator designed to address Indonesia’s entrepreneurial challenges. By leveraging digital technology, Modalin provides a structured and accessible system, enabling aspiring entrepreneurs to receive training, mentorship, and funding opportunities. Traditional business incubation models are often costly, slow, and inefficient. As a solution, Modalin offers an inclusive and affordable approach, allowing more individuals to participate in the entrepreneurial landscape.
Modalin provides five key features: Rekanin (business networking), Mentoring (business guidance), Nekoin (investment opportunities), Kenalin (business introductions), and Paham (educational modules). These features create a dynamic business ecosystem where members can connect with fellow entrepreneurs, mentors, and potential investors. To sustain its operations, the platform generates revenue through subscription fees, transaction commissions, mentoring sessions, and advertising services. Additionally, Modalin is open to partnerships with various organizations, including government institutions and industry associations, to expand its inclusive business ecosystem. With this innovative approach, Modalin is committed to empowering the next generation of entrepreneurs and fostering sustainable economic growth in Indonesia.
