The Department of Management at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Bengkulu, successfully held an international public lecture attended by over 200 participants on Monday, November 11, 2024. The event, which took place in the Dean’s Hall, featured Prof. Jau-Rong Chen, also known as Prof. Kelly, from Mingchi University of Technology (MCUT), Taiwan. As the Director of the International MBA Program at MCUT, Prof. Kelly delivered a lecture on the theme “The Role of Social Entrepreneurship on the Circular Economy,” a topic highly relevant in the context of sustainable economics.


The public lecture was officially opened by Prof. Dr. Kamaludin, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Bengkulu, who expressed his appreciation for Prof. Kelly’s presence and hoped that both students and faculty members would benefit from the material presented. The lecture session continued with Prof. Kelly’s presentation, moderated by Mukti Trio Putra, MBA, a lecturer from the Department of Management. The participants, consisting of Management Department faculty and students, showed high enthusiasm throughout the event.


In his presentation, Prof. Kelly discussed the important role of social entrepreneurship in promoting the circular economy, an approach aimed at minimizing waste and enhancing the sustainable use of resources. He explained how social entrepreneurship can create new opportunities that positively impact the environment and society. The discussion was interactive, with students actively asking questions and engaging with Prof. Kelly on the topic.


In addition to delivering inspiring material, Prof. Kelly also gave out door prizes to the participants, further boosting their enthusiasm for the lecture. He also introduced the fast-track program for students of the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Bengkulu, a program that accelerates studies from undergraduate to master’s level through a partnership between MCUT and UNIB. This program has been running for several years and is expected to provide students with opportunities to attain higher degrees in a shorter time while strengthening international ties between the two universities.
